Abstract

Reading novel is a philosophical hobby. It triggers cognitive domains and imaginative powers. Characters play a vital role in this regard. Post Colonial Novels are filled with tragic characters. Tragedy is basiically a state of mind and the Psychology of a person can be well judged on the basis of tragedy. Tragic characters get our focus on the drawbacks of our society, and try to bring a positive change in it. Author is basically the reflection of society, so he critically analyse the societal, cultural and psychological aspects of the society. With the help of tragic characters, the novel writers bring in freshness, and excitement in the content, and resultantly, the tragic characters can be seen in various forms. Societal changes have caused change in the trend of novels as well.Though tragic novels are not trending in the contemporary era, but as tragic characters are concern, they will remain always be part of novels in Literature.
