Abstract
The French significant philosopher Montaigne was the pioneer of personal or light Essay in sixteenth century. The Francis Bacon, who was called the father of English essay, initiated this kind of essay in English literature. This kind of essay has been introduced in Urdu literature through English. This article discusses the history and progress of personal or light essay in Urdu literature.
