Abstract

Khadija Mastoor is famous for her Urdu short story and novel

writing. She got huge fame through her novel "Aangan" which was

published in 1962. Her second and last novel "Zameen" got published

soon after her death. "Aangan" revolves around a middle class muslim

family whereas "Zameen" depicts a family which has neglected family

values, old traditional norms and eastern family ethics. Both these novels

carry a different idea, but both present such families which were happy

and united before but got dispersed with the passage of time. The

purpose of this article is toanalyse her novels in the perspective of family

life which will highlight the reasons behind estrangement between blood

relations and decadence of family unity in the modern era.
