Fort William College was established at Calcutta, the capital of the
British East India Company occupied territory, in 1800 AD for the
purpose to taught local languages, history, etc. to new comer European
officers in India. Dr. John Gilchrist was appointed the professor of
Hindustani or Urdu language. In his patronage many prominent Urdu
writers wrote a large number of Urdu Prose (and some poetic) books
which have a great historical and literary importance. Some of those books
were made published by the College. Aside a number of research books
and various writings on Fort William College, there is less, rather nothing

William College belongs to Hindoostanee or Urdu. This article gives some
