Abstract
Since the existense of God is shared by almost all nations of the world, therefore the concept of Hamd (Hymn) is universal. Hamd (Hymn) means praise for Allah Almighty. When a sensible man observes his innerself and the vast outer world, uncountable living and non-living things smaller and bigger, from very small particle to a very very big and limitless universe, he wonders and then does nothing but praise his Creator (Lord). Like all other literatures, Hamd accupies a unique place in Urdu literature. In this article, it is discussed what Hamd (Hymn) is and what it means according to different dictionaries. Moreover, different point of views of renowned scholars, critics and literary people are also included in it to explain Hamd (Hymn).
