Abstract

Though in Urdu literature, the tradition of presenting moral stories in allegorical manners can be traced back in 17th century, but we find such an allegory in form of Khat-e-Taqdeer in the second half of 19th century which occupies the place of first and foremost allegory in Urdu prose written in Lahore at the time .This allegory written by Maulve Kareem-ud-din is considered important not only with reference to foremost allegory written in Lahore nevertheless the preface of this allegory is important for us as it is the first reflection of progressive school of thought on critical level in fiction. In this article the importance of Khat -e- Taqdeer from these two references has been discussed .
