Abstract
This article casts a critical glance on the anthologies of Urdu short stories. In
this article 57 anthologies of Urdu short stories have been explored and analyzed and
an attempt has been made to seek the answers of such significant questions as: What is
an anthology? What are different types of an anthology? Which anthologies might be
dubbed as standard and which are not and on what basis? What is the importance of
the literary worth of the compiler? Can the popularity and worth of a writer be
measured from an anthology? Which short story writers have occupied more space in
anthologies? Morever the point that those short story writers who have got less space
in the anthologies, but they relish a stastus ofdistinguished writer has also been
discussed.
