Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Urdu translations of the short stories of Jamal Mir Sadeqi, a prominent contemporary Persian fiction writer, with particular focus on the linguistic, cultural, and stylistic aspects of translation. The research examines how the translators have transferred the themes, narrative techniques, cultural references, and literary aesthetics of the original Persian texts into Urdu. Employing a comparative and analytical approach, the study evaluates the degree of equivalence between the source and target texts and investigates the challenges involved in translating idiomatic expressions, cultural nuances, and stylistic features. The findings suggest that while the Urdu translations successfully convey the central ideas and emotional depth of Sadeqi’s stories, certain modifications and adaptations are made to ensure readability and cultural accessibility for Urdu-speaking audiences. The study highlights the significant role of literary translation in fostering intercultural understanding and strengthening the literary relationship between Persian and Urdu traditions, while emphasizing the importance of balancing fidelity to the source text with the expectations of the target readership.
