Abstract

This article presents an analysis of Dr Hamid Ateeq Sarwar's poems. His books are about existential despair, unfulfilled wishes and the negative aspects of the modern lifestyle. In his poetry he mourns the decay of the human race in the mechanised era and at the same time exhibits his own spiritual and worldly consciousness. He firmly believes in speaking the truth fearlessly, regardless of risks or consequences. His poetic expression is the individual of the modern industrial age who longs for freedom of breath but whose way is blocked by social oppression. Dr Hamid Ateeq has written poetry as well as illustrated his literary talent in the area of translation, becoming influenced by the poetry of Rumi, Hafez Shirazi, Nizar Qabbani, Hakim Sanai, Qurat al Ayn Tahira, Martha Medeiros, Nazim Hikmet, Amir Khusro and Khalil Jibran.
