Abstract

The tradition of drama as a genre in Urdu literature is not very old. It originated almost two hundred years ago. Along with several playwrights, Ashfaq Ahmed and Bano Qudsia played a key role in the promotion and development of this genre. They wrote a good deal of plays for radio, stage and TV. As both dramatists lived together as husband and wife for a considerably long period of their lives, it was natural that there was mutual harmony between their temperaments, dispositions, and outlooks. This article gives a brief overview of common elements present in the plays of both playwrights.
