Apart from being a great poet and philosopher, Iqbal was also a sage. However, he rescued the nation of Islam from the problems of slavery, ignorance, inferiority complex and decline. He made the personalities of the Companions, saints and Sufis among the ideal personalities of the Islamic nation in a special way in his poem, and he tried his best to create in them the virtues found in him. Allama taught the truthfulness of Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddiq, the justice of Hazrat Umar Farooq, the courage of Hazrat Ali, the sacrifice of Imam Hussain. He described the spirit of martyrdom of Hazrat Ubaidah, the piety and intelligence of Hazrat Salman Farsi and the leadership of Hazrat Khalid bin Waleed as ideal for modern Muslims. Thus in Sufis and saints, Hazrat Owais Qarni's Ishq Rasool, Hazrat Junaid's Vision, Hazrat Imam Ghazali's knowledge and intelligence, Mujaddid Allaf Sani confidence and Khwaja Moin-ud-Din's love for humanity given the best examples and repeated urges to imitate their lives and teachings, This article gives a brief overview on how Allama Iqbal viewed and portrayed these great personalities.
