Abstract

Dr. Iqbal was a unique personality. The world, particularly the Muslims around the globe, benefitted a lot from his philosophical thought, knowledge and intellect as well as the novelty of his message. The universal tone and tenor of Iqbal's poetry and its revolutionary character captivated a large number of people. . Whení Iqbal studied all the nations of the world, he found the Islamic civilization to be better than the rest. More than the merits of the western civilization, its demerits are reflected in his writings. These include artificiality and disingenuousness, reliance on intellect and reason, national, racial, religious, and more than any other, ethnic bias, distance from religion, freedom of thinking, atheism, nationalism, communism, secularism and dictatorship. After close analysis of various civilizations, he studied in detail their positive and negative aspects, and later presented this message in his writings. This was aimed at welfare of the Indian Muslims. That is why he opposed blind following of the other civilizations. He found Islam to be superior to all the religions and civilizations. The purpose of his poetry was to lay foundation of an independent Muslim society, with Ka'aba as its center. Such a society should have a strong faith in Allah and His prophet. Iqbal's philosophy and message teaches us the same.
