Abstract

Urdu drama, though in its inception was a purely an artistic and musical performance in the era of Wajid Ali Shah, but during the independence struggle in the twentieth century and social upheaval of this eraitcould not escape the reformation of the time.Chaudhary Afzal Haq is example in question who followed the allegorical style of Nazir Ahmed in his romance, allegories and in drama also. His drama óó Shaour LL shows him using the genre of drama to further his theme of reformation at grass roots. In this article explains the theme of the play as well as its artistic treatment. It elaborates how Ch.Afzal Haq, a re formist par excellence, uses his plot and characters to further his reformist agenda through this popular genre.
