Zafar Iqbal is probably late twentieth century's only most disputed poet who has helped cracking two groups in Urdu poetry. At one point he has managed to influence one segment of poets through his powerful poetry, but has also garnered blame for misguiding a number of poets. He has changed meanings of Urdu words and diction and come up with new meanings and new poetic streams of thought. Hence at one instance he reconstructed both poetic and linguistics trends in Urdu Poetry. Even after being trained in classic Urdu literature, and the use of new words, new idioms, and new structure of verses, his most popular poetry retains its eastern influence. His verses contain words that seem to have no connection with one another. In fact, he attempts to create a strange yet pleasant arrangement of words that may not give traditional meaning but still appeal to its readers and the poet himself. Zafar Iqbal has drawn on the canvas of Urdu poetry with new bold creative shades. His works seems to give different impressions from one another to the reader. This is no surprise because Zafar Iqbal is a poet who rejects both contemporary and past poetic trends.
