Abstract

Majlis e Iqbal is one of the well reknowned literary society of Urdu Department of GCULahore.At the start it is named as Urdu Majlis, then in 1938 the name isreplaced by Majlis e Iqbal. At that time weekly meetings had been held every Thursday. The main theme of this majlis meeting was to analyse the literary works which were presented in the form of short story, poetry and essays etc. In Urdu Literature the tradition of Majlisi Tanqeed was established by this Society. Many well renowned writers like Patras Bukhari, Qayyum Nazar, Shahzad Ahmad, Anees Naagi and Kishwar Naheed etc. In this article,Dr. Saima Iram presented the rich tradition and history of Majlis e Iqbal.
