Abstract

"Jikri",an ancient poetic genres has been considered the product  of early age of"Gujjari Literature".This literary class became popular in Gujrat in the period of 15th and 16th century. Jikri literature has a deep solid relationship with music. It not only presented passionate love but also described moral lessons in a very attractive way. This subtle poetic head attained an amazing popularity in a very short period of time. Many renowned poets like Sheikh Baha-Ud-Din Bajan, Sheikh Ali Jeogam Dhani, Qazi Mehmood Daryai and Khoob M. Chishti proudly made this genre as medium of presenting their thoughts. This article has focused on different factors involved in evolution, height and extinction of "Jikai Literature".
