Abstract

Twentieth century has highlighted the importance of travelogue. In fact, Lahore has played basic role in it. Travelogue has immense importance in the evolution of Urdu prose in Lahore which appeared as basic educational and literary reference. "Safar Nama Munshi Ameen Chand" is the first vernacular travelogue which was written in the beginning of the 2nd half of 19th century. In this travelogue valuable information about social life, history and geography of several cities of sub-continent has reached us in beautiful diction. Being the basic model of Lahore's educational and literary prose, the study of this informational travelogue is not void of interest.
